GCUT made new breakthroughs in the 19th “Challenge Cup” National College Student Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition

Finals of the 19th “Challenge Cup” National College Student Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition was held in Nanjing University from October 31 to November 3. Teams from Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) presented outstanding performances, thus winning 5 national prizes with 1 first prize of the main track, 1 grand prize in the “open contest for selecting the best candidates”(among China’s private universities, only two won the prize) , 1 third prize, 1 excellent award, and 1 third prize of the “AI+” Special Events and Contests included, which reached a record high. In recent three years, GCUT accumulated to win 10 national prizes in the “Challenge Cup” National College Student Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, which remain the first among similar universities and colleges in Guangdong province.



Self-adaptive Multimodal Detecting Robots Based on Biomimetic Wheel-legged Structure, a work that won the first prize of the main track, aims to design an all-terrain detecting robot which adopts blade wheel and robotic arms for its complex legged structure in an innovative way while greatly improving its stability under complex environment drawing on finite element analysis and self-balancing control system. Moreover, its obstacle-crossing performances under rugged terrain is enhanced through introducing reinforcement learning algorithms based on IsaacLab. Furthermore, it can carry multi-sensor systems that achieves self-adaptive multimodal switching, thus effectively keep a balance between mobility and obstacle-crossing performances. Therefore, it can be used in terms of high risk work such as rescue, fire control and military affairs.



The work wining the grand prize in the “open contest for selecting the best candidates”, GS_SmartCare_for_KylinOS, focuses on designing an automatic intelligent operation and maintenance system that centers around the pain points of KylinOS regarding its application of operation and maintenance in key fields. It innovates the whole process of intelligent operation and maintenance system featuring “sensing - analyzing - decision-making”. As for the technological structure, it takes four-layered closed-loop collaboration as its core, for example, its data level will be collected for various types in high frequency and stored by categories through Telegraf, BCC and Logstash, which can guarantee its real-time operation and efficiency of inquiry; analysis level classifies abnormal levels precisely based on time series prediction model and five-dimensional factor model of KylinPulse; and so on. It promotes the operation and maintenance to change to “positive prevention” from “passive reaction”, thus guaranteeing the stable operation of key fields of KylinOS. In this way, it provides a new solution to the intelligent operation and maintenance of operating systems that are made in China.



The 19th “Challenge Cup” National College Student Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition has attracted over 3 million college students from around 2,700 national universities with surpassing 400,000 works. Since the series of competitions under the “Challenge Cup” has been initiated, GCUT carried out related work on its preparation, building the supporting system of “topic selecting - cultivation - competition - commercialization”. During the provincial competitions of the 19th “Challenge Cup” National College Student Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, GCUT won 2 grand prizes, 4 first prizes, 8 second prizes and 10 third prizes while being awarded as “outstanding organizing unit”.
