Faculty, students, alumni and friends:

The year of 2026 is with us as the bell of new year rings. On behalf of the Board, Party committee and administrative leadership of Guangzhou City University of Technology(GCUT), we extend sincere greetings and best wishes to faculty, alumni and friends who support GCUT’s development!

Last year marked an extraordinary year of GCUT.

We took a deep dive into Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and spirits of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and its plenary sessions to further implement CPC’s education campaign of eight-point decision on improving work conduct last year. In this way, we have strengthened the Party’s overall leadership while improving its ideological and political work. Moreover, we achieved improvements in our teaching style, academic atmosphere and working style, marching towards GCUT’s quality development.

 It is in last year that we faced the evaluation of undergraduate teaching in ordinary colleges when all GCUT’s faculty and students pulled together to surmount difficulties, through which we cultivated a team that is able to fight and win with tenacity. Therefore, we completed the paper marking faculty’s innovation, wisdom and devotions in concerted efforts, which mirrors their dedications.

 We started the building of GCUT’s new library while finishing the construction of GCUT’s Scientific Innovation Center, Party Building Center for Ideological and Political Education, Faculty and Student Creation Exhibition, and series of cultural exhibitions in teaching buildings last year, enriching areas for ideological and cultural education. GCUT’s faculty and students took an active part in National Hundred and Thousand and Ten-Thousand Talent Project as well as Double Hundred Project, who served grassroots communities in 18 prefecture-level cities with 12 teams supported quality development of primary education in Yao Autonomous County of Liannan. It showed that they care about their family and country, but also revealed their senses of responsibility.

Last year, focusing on quality development to further promote the improvement project on teaching quality with students as its priority, we  made new achievements in talent cultivation and teaching quality. We worked in consistent with regional economic and social development through building four majors including artificial intelligence, financial technology, π design and green and intelligent transportation while 127 of its courses deeply integrating with AI technologies. Its teaching reforms furthered as 1 course was rated as national first-class course, and 2 teaching materials were awarded as provincial outstanding ones while wining 2 first prizes and 2 second prizes of provincial teaching achievement award.

We were steeped in the integration between competitions and innovation last year, and witnessed prizes winning in succession with 1 national first prize of the “Challenge Cup” National College Student Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition and 1 grand prize of the open competition mechanism to select the best candidates; 1 national silver prize, 1 national bronze prize and 2 provincial gold awards of the China’s International College Students’ Innovation Competition included. Moreover, it enjoyed an increase in the number of National Undergraduate Training Programs for Innovation and Entrepreneurship as well as the rate of students’ participation such as winning a national first prize of the National Undergraduate Electronics Design Contest (ranking the first in total score among teams in Guangdong province), mirroring fruitful results and vibrancy of its innovative education.

We deepened the integration between industry and education last year, thus keeping promoting the building of 9 modern industrial institutes such as intelligent manufacturing and green and intelligent transportation. Furthermore, we issued the Implementation of the cultivation of AI Talents to create a favorable environment for cultivating AI talents. We introduced 118 teaching faculty whose rate of doctoral degree and senior professional title were greatly increased, keeping improving teaching and innovative competence of teaching faculty. They won the first prize and outstanding organization award of provincial teaching innovation contest for college teachers while making new progress in scientific research with its numbers and quality of applied and granted patents increasing.

We embraced quality sources of students and employment last year. GCUT’s Gaokao (National College Entrance Examination) admission score (Category of Physics and History) ranked the first among similar colleges and universities in first-tier cities and the second among provincial similar colleges and universities. Its primary enrollment rate reached 100% while its rate of graduate employment was 96%, enabling it to win the title of Innovative Quality Employment University.

We improved campus environment to enhance our services last year, thus creating a more harmonious, intelligent and safer campus. It provided the service of “scanning QR code to deal with logistics-related affairs” to upgrade its intelligent campus services. “AI Center” was basically established, whose online services enable its faculty and students to be free from running errands with data provided. The building of intelligent campus fully supported the digitization of talent cultivation. Our campus turns more attractive and comfortable, thus further improving GCUTers’ sense of happiness and fulfillment.

Just as an Chinese saying goes, “As grass and trees are thriving, spring is waiting to be admired”. The year of 2026 marks the beginning of GCUT’s “15th Five-Year Plan”. Looking ahead, there exist opportunities and challenges. We will be united to forge ahead with resolve and tenacity to stimulate GCUT’s future with open-mindedness, writing a new chapter of GCUT’s quality development.
