As the plane took by Tianjin Women’s water polo team took off on the morning of November 22, the arrival and departure services at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport of the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China (Guangzhou Section) were drawing to a close. During the sports gala, 331 volunteers from Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) started their services since May 26, serving for 2,975 times and 13,640 hours. They brought their tasks to a successful conclusion.

Showing the “smiling card” of Guangzhou
At Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, volunteers of GCUT have served 22 events and related delegations with their enthusiasm and carefulness, ensuring the reception tasks performed efficiently. They stuck to their posts even during the summer vacation, the National’s Day and the Mid-Autumn Day. They greeted and saw off every guest that participated in the games to guarantee services at the airport, totaling 551 sports teams and 3,102 technical officials and judges.

Considerate services at the hotel
Volunteers from GCUT stationed at Guangzhou Southern Airlines Pearl Airport Hotel in November, concentrating on the reception services for technical officials. Before they took up their posts, they have received systematic training including overview of events, proper behaviors and contingency plans for emergencies, laying solid foundation for their services. When on duty, they devoted themselves to their services with sincere smiles and professional attitudes, such as consultation and guidance at the reception center and assistance to hotel rooms. GCUT’s volunteers have served for the games for 183 times up to November 21, providing “one stop” services for the stationed teams to ensure the services for related technical officials. They showed amazing vibrancy and great passion through their confidence, profession and responsibility.

Professional guidance at the field
Track and field events of the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China (except marathon and race walking) were held at the Guangdong Olympic Sports Center from November 15 to 20. 87 volunteers from GCUT took an active part in serving the audience with their responsibility and professional services, ensuring the smooth operation of the games.
To make good preparations for the services, volunteers have taken part in systematic training, simulation exercises and tests of their posts in advance since November 11 so as to be more familiar with functions of the stadiums, routes of audience and event schedules. During the games, GCUT’s volunteers were divided into 7 working groups based on the number of on-duty volunteers. When receiving on-duty orders, members of each group could reach the designated area within five minutes with their missions assigned, and then focused on their services such as ticket checking, and guidance to seats and equipment. In terms of heated events with a large amount of audience, volunteers would communicate and coordinate via their walkie-talkie in time to maintain orders. When the daily events were finished, all volunteers keep gathering together to review so as to summarize lessons learned from their services and analyze disadvantages.
Yao Yongling, Director of the Division of Volunteers and Audience Services of the Competition Committee of Athletics, thought highly of GCUT’s volunteers, appreciating their professional services and full enthusiasm. They helped to guarantee the smooth operation of the games and quality experience of audience, through which they demonstrated volunteer service spirits.

GCUT’s Vice President Liu Jianbo visited and extended appreciations to GCUT’s volunteers serving at the airport and athletics fields, praising them for their devotions and profession. He recommended that they should value the practices, and encouraged them to keep the outstanding performances in their future study and daily life, thus demonstrating GCUTers’ vibrancy and responsibilities.

Volunteers from GCUT reached a satisfactory conclusion to their services for the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China. They mirrors volunteer service spirits featuring “devotion, fraternity, reciprocity and improvement” through 2,975 times of services in 13,640 hours, devoting their youth to the holding of the sports gala.
