President Su Cheng and Vice President Wang Zhichen of Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) led a delegation to visit Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology) and Guangzhou Mind Intelligence Robot Co., Ltd (Mind Intelligence) on September 28 for exchanges with an aim to promote the deep integration of industry, education and science in embodied AI as well as get in touch with advanced innovative resources of Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology and internship programs of Mind Intelligence. Related leadership of Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, including Yu Xuefeng, Member of Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology Affairs Committee and Institute Director of the Institute of Materials and Intelligence Nexus Development; Tan Le, Director of Office of Education; Huang Xiaohua, Deputy Director of Industry Development Center; as well as that of Mind Intelligence such as its President Tan Lin and head of its Department of Industrial Cooperation Zhang Haoyu, were present to receive them. Centering around the goal of building a high-quality application-oriented university, they discussed over topics including the deep integration of industry, education, and science, fostering embodied AI talents, project-based teaching reform, application-oriented scientific research, and building of joint laboratory.

President Su Cheng first introduced GCUT’s general development of building a high-quality application-oriented university, and explorations of disciplinary construction, building of industrial colleges, and fostering students integrating industry with education at the discussion meeting. He pointed out that the development of an application-oriented university must stay consistent with industrial demands, focusing on real-world projects, and rooted in front-line industrial scenarios. Therefore, GCUT will deepen its coordinated development of its schools and industrial colleges based on its fostering system in the future. As for fostering students, it will keep up with requirements of related posts of the industrial chain to build its characteristic industrial curricular system, so as to enhance students’ practical skills and innovative competence as well as their matching with the industry. In terms of scientific research, it will deepen the integration between science and education through joint-building of industry-education-research platform between university and enterprise, thus carrying forward application-oriented scientific research and commercialization of scientific and technological achievements that helps to boost teaching. In this way, it can coordinate to foster high-quality application-oriented talents.

Participants agreed with the fact that embodied AI has became a key direction in real-economy-based industries that connect AI and advanced manufacturing, biomedical sciences and new materials as AI accelerates to extend from digital world to physical world, while it also puts forward new requirements for related talents’ competence. The development of the future industries ask for both research-based talents who master theories of AI and robotics, and those who can promote the implementation of technologies that combine embodied AI technologies with industrial requirements based on their mastery of advanced technologies, engineering systems, and front-line industrial experience.
The exchange further clarify their cooperation and approaches to the deep integration of industry, education, and science among the three parties. GCUT will continue to deepen its comprehensive cooperation with Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology and Mind Intelligence drawing on the visit to advance its building of intelligent manufacturing industrial college. Consequently, it can keep promoting the deep integration of education chain, talent chain, innovation chain and industrial chain based on advanced technologies of embodied AI, actual industrial requirements, and telated projects, thus injecting new momentum to its building of an application-oriented university while fostering more reliable application-oriented talents for the high-quality development of strategic emerging industries.
