On the afternoon of March 26, Student Volunteer Service Center of Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) Communist Youth League Committee held the activity of “cultural fair for public interest” to learn from Lei Feng associated with volunteer service teams and student associations of its schools at the square of Student Center to celebrate the incoming of the 63th “Learn from Lei Feng Day” and the 27th “Day of Chinese Youth Volunteer Services” (both on March 5), as well as implementing Chinese President Xi Jinping’s instructions on carrying forward Lei Feng spirit to inspire its students to take concrete actions to help others.

Focused on the theme of “Learning from Lei Feng”, stalls set up at the square carried forward Lei Feng spirit through various forms with distinctive features. Stalls such as “learning from Lei Feng through memorizing his stories and it’s a right time to participate in volunteering services” and “rubbing of Lei Feng’s stories” guided students to better understand Lei Feng spirit while carrying forward his spirit by knowledge quizzes and brushing up Lei Feng’s stories respectively; stalls including “green and low-carbon lifestyles boost ecological protection” and “rubbing of nature on a leaf or a piece of paper” propelled students to recycle resources to help protect the green campus; and the stall “wishes for children” centered around showing cares and hopes to children via sending wishes and calls for volunteer activities.
A student volunteer participating in the fair shared that she felt a sense of fulfillment as she witnessed that more students played an active part in various kinds of volunteer activities to carry forward Lei Feng spirit. She said that she would also keep devoting to different kinds of volunteer activities to learn from Lei Feng.
It is introduced that the stalls for volunteer services of the fair cover 17 themes, including basic contents such as public service, environmental protection activities, and science popularization as well as characteristic parts like handmade activity of intangible cultural heritages, garbage classification, and promotion of “Go West” program (college students participating in a voluntary service program in China’s less-developed western region), and employment and entrepreneurship capacity enhancement program of college students in Guangdong Province. It attracted around 680 students to participate in the activity, making volunteer services closer to daily life among GCUT’s youths.
